Terry Bozzio becomes Hammerax Hybrid Endorser

Hammerax has entered into an agreement where  drum virtuoso Terry Bozzio will endorse and play Hammerax Hybrid bronze hanging sculptural percussion instruments.

Hammerax has a sculptural hybrid factory in Florida where they craft hanging bronze instruments that are suspended from extremely strong and light cord. These instruments are mounted on cymbal boom stands like chimes. The patented shapes, alloys and hammering techniques give these instruments sounds never before heard. They are very tough and playable with drumsticks. “This is an important step to be working with Terry in our Hybrid efforts.” said Hammerax President, John Stannard. Terry has just received 3 styles of Boomywang, 2 sizes of Culebra, 2 Glass,  a 28” Meanie, , and a 24” thin Gong with a hand hammered Hammerax “H” logo.

Terry’s bio is diverse to say the least. After extensive classical training Terry played with a variety of acts, from small bands to Woodie Shaw, then in 1975 joined Frank Zappa and notably played on “The Black Page” a piece so dense with notes that the sheet music was nearly black with ink. Terry has played with Mark Isham, Herbie Hancock, Korn, Billy Gibbons, Zakir Husain, Giovani Hidalgo, and Jeff Beck. Terry co-produced the Grammy award winning “Guitar Shop “ by Jeff Beck. Terry is now Co- Director of The Drum Channel.

Terry Joins a growing list of Hammerax hybrid endorsers including Dame Evelyn Glennie, Pat Mastelotto of King Crimson, Emil Richards, Walfredo Reyes Jr, Will Callhoun, Marco Giovino, Danny Gottlieb, Omar Hakim, and others.

Hammerax Contest- Win a Free $474 Whipcrash Cymbal

Clearwater, Fl March 1, 2010

Hammerax has announced a contest where drummers can guess the number of hammer dents in a 24” Whipcrash Ultra cymbal and win one, absolutely free. (Street value $474 USA).

Whipcrash are among the loudest cymbals ever made.  The 24” Ultra has been measured at 119 db.  Most loud cymbals focus in one range, usually highs. Whipcrash spreads sound over a wider range to create shimmering color.

There is helpful information and detailed close-up photos on the Hammerax website to help drummers and percussionists in making their guess. There are absolutely no purchases or costs involved. The closest guess will win. Hammerax is even paying freight on the winning shipment.

The deadline to submit a guess is April 30, 2010 and the winner will be announced on May 7th.

Hammerax has installed a hammer and metal tempering system, which has resulted in increased flexibility and richer tone. Hammerax also recently expanded the Whipcrash line to include 18”, 21”, and 24”. Whipcrash cymbals feature arrays of micro cups to allow raking and one-handed rolls. The 24” Whipcrash Ultra has 36 micro cups and thousands of hammer dents…but just how many dents? That is the question.

Hammerax Cymbal Sale saves drummers up to 45%

Clearwater, Fl December 11, 2009

Hammerax has announced the first sale in its history on its most popular cymbal lines.

“Typically we have resisted holding sales since the Hammerax brand is a premium handmade group of products. The idea behind this sale is to bring the Hammerax brand to a wider group of drummers and percussionists worldwide during this time of expansion,” stated John Stannard, President of Hammerax.

This is a sale on the most popular Hammerax cymbals- It includes the newly expanded Liquicy, Whipcrash , and Indigo brands. The sale comes at a time of increased costs.  Metal commodity prices are way up. Copper prices have doubled this year. Tin has increased as well. The other elements in the Hammerax proprietary alloys are also all up in raw cost.

In addition to increased raw metal costs, the quality of Hammerax instruments is better than ever. The installation of a new hammer system and other quality measures is bringing richer, stronger cymbals, bells and hybrids to drummers and percussionists worldwide.  Hammerax cymbal cups are now made totally by hammering.

Availability is immediate on sale items. The sale is set to end on January 13, 2010. Videos and a link to dealers are posted on the Hammerax website.

Hammerax Indigo® LTD edition 23” Crashride
Hammerax announces the releases of a Limited Edition US MADE 23” Crashride. At just 1935 grams average, it weighs in as one of the lightest large cymbals ever created.

Clearwater, Fl December 9, 2009

Hammerax announces the releases of a Limited Edition US MADE 23” crashride. At just 1935 grams average, it weighs in as one of the lightest large cymbals ever created. “There is a beautiful low range roar sweeping up to a dark silver crash. At 23” with a fair sized cup, this can also fill a room with volume. The ride sound is very flexible according to the type of sticks used. The cup is integrated and when struck tends to echo a complex sound into the whole cymbal” said John Stannard, Hammerax President. A beautiful hammer pattern of thousands of dents adds strength and complexity to the sound.

The crest of each dent has been micro lathed and polished while the valleys of the dents are fired dark. The finish on hammerax cymbals is NEVER painted or lacquered. The cup is forged completely through hammering. “We know of no other cups in the cymbal industry being made this way. This adds strength and creates a unique tone.

Hammerax brand cymbals are now stronger than ever due to the installation of a new hammer system at Hammerax that can refine metallic grain and add flexibility through hammering. Hammerax Indigo cymbals are hammered thousands of times and are made of a special alloy heat treated in a unique process. “Rolling happens while a cymbal is flat, but is only the beginning- this hammering method continues throughout the cymbal making process on a 3-D scale, adding strength, volume, and richness” says Stannard. Indigo cymbals show excellent crash durability and superior crack resistance.

Each cymbal has 3 holes for rivets. Removable rivets are provided with each cymbal.

Each Indigo 23” crashride will be signed and numbered.  Only 199 will be made.Availability is immediate.    Made in USA Patents Pending

Press Release – Hammerax Expands Whipcrash Line

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Contact: John Stannard, President, Hammerax
Email: H@hammerax.com Phone: 727-442-5050

Hammerax Expands Whipcrash® Line
The loudest cymbals on earth? Hammerax announced expansion of its Whipcrash® brand to 4 surprisingly loud crash sizes- 18”, 21”, 24”, and 24” Ultra- and are All MADE IN USA.

Clearwater, Fl December 7, 2009

Whipcrash® features an S-Shaped array of MICROCUPS, which can be raked for one-handed rolls. By starting out at the tip of your stick and raking back and forth, then moving gradually to the shank, the sound deepens and increases in loudness. The 18”,
21” and 24” feature 10 microcups. The 24” Whipcrash® Ultra features a total of 36 microcups to make one handed raking easy from any angle and increase volume.

Most loud cymbals achieve volume by focusing on one range of sounds – usually highs. Whipcrash® spreads the volume over a wider range. Whipcrash® cymbals can reach extreme loudness but also shimmering color. Hammerax uses an especially strong bronze alloy that, when combined with unique hammering techniques, yields an extreme range of sonic colors and volumes from a mellow roar to a screaming wall of sound. Removable sizzles are included with each cymbal. Whipcrash® also sounds even richer when heard at distances of 15 to 30 feet. Whipcrash® leans toward the dark spectrum but has beautiful mids. The 24” is deeply dark and can function as a true crash or a crashride. The center cup on Whipcrash® is dark and integrated rather than being a bright bell sound. These microcups are not attached sizzles but true miniature cups which are forged in the cymbal.

Whipcrash® brand cymbals are now stronger than ever due to the installation of a new hammer system at Hammerax, which can refine metallic grain and add flexibility through hammering. They are hammered thousands of times and are made of a special alloy heat treated in a unique process. They show excellent crash durability and superior crack resistance. This also helps create some of loudest sounds on the market. “ These are the loudest cymbals we have heard,” says John Stannard, Hammerax president. “We collect hundreds of loud cymbals from many sources and nothing compares in terms of total blast of crash sound. They are especially rich and loud in the dark and middle spectrum.

We recently measured the 24” Whipcrash® Ultra at 119 db. That is very loud, but Whipcrash® sounds absolutely stunning when combined with bright cymbals. The total wall of sound is impressive.” Hammerax center cups are now forged completely through HAMMERING. No pressing is involved. There is a beautiful matrix of sound dents in the center cup. 4 year Limited Warranty. Patents Pending.

Press Release – Hammerax Installs New Cymbal Hammer System

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Hammerax Installs New Cymbal Hammer System
Hammerax has implemented a new hammer system for the forging of cymbals, bells and hybrid percussion instruments.

Clearwater, Fl December 4, 2009

The system is a combination of hand and machine hammering capable of delivering new types of formations in metal. Hammerax is sticking with their general policy of keeping processes secret but has released some info about this new system. “These are not typical cymbal hammers” says John Stannard, Hammerax President. “This is custom tooling and the methods are totally different than anything we have seen.” While the system does contain some machines, there is no automation. “The system is guided totally by hand. The machines reduce fatigue and add power and flexibility, but there is much handwork involved. These are still truly handmade cymbals. The result is the ability to forge bronze in new ways that can add volume and richness of sound and a wonderful variety of hammer shapes can be used to create many sounds and patterns” says Stannard. “Tens of thousands of dents can be now placed into an instrument. The power of this system, in combination with very careful heat treatment and unique alloys results in tonal beauty with extreme potential for loudness.” The fatigue reduction factor allows for greater consistency of quality. “These are still works of art like any great cymbal, but we did not want a cymbal started in the afternoon to be different than one started in morning simply because of cymbal smith fatigue. This new method allows the cymbal smith to concentrate on the form and sound of the cymbal.” Thinner cymbals can also be made with higher strength using this system since hammering can refine metallic grain in more directions than rolling alone. “Rolling happens while a cymbal is flat, but rolling is only the beginning- this hammering method continues throughout the cymbal making process on a 3-D scale, adding strength, volume, and richness” says Stannard.

In addition, Hammerax cups are now formed completely with HAMMERING. “Hammering cups is a lost art and our method is a very new take on this old idea. By forging the cup through hammering, the resulting sound is quite different. The cup is physically very strong, but the sound is more integrated into the whole of the cymbal.” Strength is an important feature of this system. “This method of hammering moves the bronze grain structure in hundreds of directions, hence refining the metal and improving strength far beyond the capabilities of the initial rolling process.” “Power, strength, tone, and quality were the goals here. This method was 4 years in development,” says Stannard.
